5 Essential Summer Beauty Tips

Summer Beauty 1

If you live in the UK and have been witness to the torrential downpours and gale force winds we’ve been having for the past week (I was nearly blown off my mules on the way to work on Wednesday), then you’ll be forgiven for not believing me, BUT summer is just around the corner.  This means we need to put our balaclavas away for another year and actually get ourselves summer ready. Here’s what we’ll be doing at Stylingo HQ:

Stock up on fake tan

So I personally do fake tan all year around, but during the winter months I tend to get a bit lazier (and have also been known to only tan my face, arms and feet because they’re the only bits on show. Glamorous, I know). As we approach summer I’m upping my tanning game, and so have to make sure I have plenty to keep me going. I’ve recently repurchased one of my favourite tans from Cocoa Brown. Check out my full Cocoa Brown 1 Hour Tan review if you so wish, or just take my word for it that this is one of the best affordable tans out there.

Tame wild hair

I have no idea why, but for some reason my extensions always go a bit mental in the heat. I actually end up looking like a silver-haired version of Hagrid. So, as well as my usual products, I’m also much more likely to run an oil through my ends once dry, just to keep things relatively tame. This Lee Stafford Ubuntu Oils Oil Treatment is my current fave, as it also has a colour fade protection formula.

Switch up skincare

Our skin has different needs in the summer than in the winter, so I also think it’s a good time to try some new products out. Shininess is one thing I get more worried about as it gets warmer, so the new Clean & Clear Advantage Oil Control Cream Wash* is perfect. This apparently instantly washes away 85% of excess oil (which I tend to have more of in the summer), and also contains powder particles to keep shine away.

SUmmer Beauty 3

As well as oil, I think my skin also gets a bit worse during summer as a result of clogged pores from makeup, sweat and – especially if I’m on holiday – suncream. I’m looking forward to giving the new Neutrogena Visibly Clear Spot Stress Control Foaming Wash* a go, as this helps to prevent breakouts while also reducing the redness of current breakouts. Both of these are available in Boots, Superdrug and all of the usual supermarkets.

De-fuzz

Summer means no more growing your leg hair just for the sake of an extra layer of warmth – it’s time to stay silky smooth for at least the next four months. I wouldn’t usually write about razors as they’re not toooootally fascinating, but I recently stumbled across these mini bikini line razors in Bodycare and thought they were a good idea for girls who want something a bit more delicate for their foofs.

Get a pedicure

With summer come sandals, and nobody wants to be seen walking around like a pterodactyl in Primark flip flops. After my first pedicure EVER a few weeks ago (yes, really) I’m now a big fan of putting your feet in the hands of a professional to get ready for summer, but if you’re going to DIY then Barry M should of course be your first choice for summery pastel shades.

Oh no! Yep worth a try, could be your current products are more suited to your skin in the colder months (not that it’s exactly sweltering now haha…) xx

I have heard about the temperamental British weather but had no idea it could be that bad. We’ve been lucky here in Canada as it’s very warm and I must say that I’m already getting a tan just by walking out site. LOL!
