A Weekend of New Hair | Bad Apple & Blow LTD

BA FeatSince making the switch from silver/grey hair to a darker blonde earlier this year, I’ve really been enjoying having warmer tones and a more natural look (something I never thought I’d say but guess I’m growing up, sob). It’s also SO much more low-maintenance thanks to having a root drag, i.e. a darker colour applied at my roots. However, nothing good lasts forever and last week it was finally time for me to have my roots done. My nephew was also christened the same week so I was in need of some styling help on the day too – and in stepped two amazing hair brands to help a sistah out.

First of all, I paid a visit to a stylist I know called Rita in Bad Apple Solihull. I’d had my hair done with Rita before and knew that’s where she was based now, so when Bad Apple got in touch offering me a colour service I knew I was in the safest hands in the game. Rita’s an absolute queen when it comes to colouring hair, and she actually took me to my best grey ever back in August last year. We had a quick consultation in the salon, where I basically explained that I was just in need of a fresh root drag and my blonde being brought a bit higher again. Rita suggested babylights for me this time around for a softer blend from my roots, and also a toner on my current blonde and extensions for a slightly creamier finish.

All in all I was in the salon for around 3 or 4 hours, but Bad Apple is such a nice place to be that it flew by. If you haven’t been in one before – and there are others in Birmingham, Wolverhampton and Walsall, FYI – then it’s a super contemporary/cool/hip/rad/whatever-the-teens-are-saying-these-days salon. However, it’s not remotely pretentious or intimidating – the team are all lovely and the tea and mags are in constant supply.

Unlike in other salons I’ve been in where one stylist looks after you the entire way through your service, at Bad Apple you tend to have your colour done by one stylist and your cut with another. This meant that I got chatting to a few different members of the team, including Danni who cut and styled it and the lovely apprentice who washed my hair (and complimented my hairline and small forehead, which I think is one of the best compliments I’ve ever had). It’s nice that you get the benefit of several stylists’ expertise, and of course I was over the moon with my results. TA-DAA!

I left Bad Apple feeling like a total golden prinny, but my weekend of fresh hair wasn’t quite done. The next day it was, as I mentioned, my nephew’s christening. When Blow LTD* got in touch about me trying out their services, I decided that was the perfect occasion to do so. I was already familiar with Blow, but only as a London-based brand – however they’ve recently expanded into Manchester and – luckily for little ole’ me! – Birmingham.

If you haven’t heard of the concept yet, Blow Ltd allows you to book beauty services in your own home. From blow dries and makeup to waxing and nails, you can book a time and date that suit you and a fully-trained therapist will turn up straight to your door! Of course the concept of  a mobile hairdresser is nothing new (anyone else spend your childhood haircuts sitting on a dining room chair getting your fringe trimmed by your mum’s mate?), but Blow takes all of the stress of finding a time and date you can both do out of the equation. There are a whole host of hairdressers and beauty therapists working for the company, all of whom have been hand-picked and vetted so you know you’re in good hands.

I’d booked for a bespoke blow dry on the Sunday morning, and my lovely stylist Marie turned up five minutes early armed with her bag of products and styling tools. We set up in my living room – all the stylist needs is a power supply nearby – and she got to work creating lovely, loose waves. Blow Ltd only use premium products, so I had Kerastase used on me throughout my blow dry, and of course the results were perf (if I do say so myself). The whole experience was fantastic, and Marie was both professional and super friendly – I’d absolutely recommend booking a service with Blow Ltd for any special occasions you have coming up (or if you just can’t be arsed leaving your house – aka me every weekend).

Unfortunately I had a false eyelash nightmare once Marie left and I was getting ready, so I was too rushed to get any photos beforehand, but here’s a wee snap of my hair later in the day – yep, the results lasted!

I absolutely loved my weekend of pampering, and both Bad Apple and Blow Ltd are such fantastic brands. If you’re Midands-based then I definitely recommend checking out one of the Bad Apple salons, and if you’re in Birmingham then you definitely need to download the Blow Ltd app and get booking!

Have you experienced either of these brands before? Let me know in the comments!

*I was given both of these hair treatments in exchange for a review, but as always all opinions on my own.

Your hair looks fab! Blow Ltd sounds like such a great idea. My hairdresser started doing mobile hairdressing and now I’m so used to her coming to my home instead of having to go to a salon and I much prefer it, so being able to arrange for people to come and do make-up and nails etc at home sounds perfect x
