It’s been a wee while since I talked about makeup on the blog, and if you thought this might be because I’ve been going for a more natural look then you’d be WRONG. I still slap at least four layers of makeup on before heading to the shop for milk*, and am still making it my mission to find the absolute best products out there, in terms of both performance and value.
There have been a few makeup bits in the last month or so that have really stuck out to me – yep, including THE hyped mascara of the moment, Bad Gal Bang – so I thought I’d quickly round up why I’m loving them. Oh, and there are some honourable mentions to some skincare too.
*This is a joke… ish.

If there’s been one hyped-up beauty product in recent years that has given me serious FOMO, it’s the facial cleansing brush. Designed to deep-clean, exfoliate and tone, it seemed like the product my skin was crying out for – and like a lot of women, it was top of my Christmas list (okay, maybe second after a puppy – that’s a dream I’m never giving up on, dammit).
So, you can imagine my absolute delight when the amazing Magnitone London Vibra-Sonic™ Facial Cleansing Brush* arrived at Casa de Claire, right in time to get my skin glowing for Christmas. In a stunning limited edition rose gold finish, the skincare tool instantly caught my attention – who wouldn’t want this pretty addition to their bathroom? But mainly I was excited to put the Magnitone to the test and see if these brushes are worth the hype. View Full Post
In a complete 180 degree turn on my old attitude to skincare (which was, to summarise: zzz facewipes are all I need and I’ll be young forever) I now can’t get enough of the stuff. I’m always on the lookout for new products that will transform my dull, blotchy skin into something altogether more fabulous. Yep, I’m still chasing the dream of that #NoMakeupSelfie. I was recently sent the Anti-Redness Facial Cream* by Peachy Fox and, having seen it around the ‘gram a bit, I was intrigued to give it a go.

So, God knows how this happened considering my Christmas dinner feels like it was last week, but we’re now more than halfway through the year. EEK. In order to distract myself from the sheer panic of how quickly time is going (and that I really need to start putting more money into pension, seeing as I’ll be 70 in about two months at this rate), I decided to focus on some of my favourite brand discoveries of the year. Of course there are still five months for me to fall in love with new products, but for now these are my winners of 2017… View Full Post
When it comes to my skincare, I can be a bit all over the place. Sometimes I’m a total skincare boff and follow all the steps (even toner, say whuuut), preach to whoever will listen about the benefits of a double cleanse, and vow to spend all spare incoming money on whatever Kiehl’s or Origins products I’m lusting over. Then sometimes I get drunk and fall asleep in my makeup… ahh, I call it balance (others may call it disgusting). View Full Post
As the old saying goes, tan-liness is next to godliness (err, something like that anyway). As such, I’ve always taken my quest to find a good fake tan v. seriously indeed, and I’ve tried a lot of brands in my time. One that I’ve heard a lot of buzz about but hadn’t got round to trying myself yet was Skinny Tan, so when a bottle passed through work recently I seized the opportunity to try it out (along with one of the application mitts and an exfoliation mitt too – in for a penny etc).

I don’t know if I’m alone in this (don’t you dare let me down and say I am), but I kind of hate having to shower. Taking my clothes off and being all cold and then getting in the shower and being all hot, and then getting out and being all cold again while waiting to get warm… it’s just straight-up HASSLE. And don’t get me started on how red and blotchy I go after a shower, because I genuinely thought that might ruin my relationship when me and the BF went away together for the first time (who wants to go out with a blotchy tomato?). Happy Valentine’s Day, one and all! Now, rather than waste a post on nause-inducing romance, I decided that today was the day to tell you all about one of my favourite, most-loved (great link, see?) experiences of recent weeks: my visit to Foofed. ‘Foof?’ you ask, ‘Isn’t that another word for a vagi-‘ – yes, yes it is, dear readers. But Foofed is also a gorgeous new blow dry bar / ultimate pre-night out destination in Sutton Coldfield. I was recently invited along to try out a treatment, and as I had an event to go to, I decided that a curly blow dry was definitely something I needed in my life. View Full Post
Hello there my little festive elves! Christmas shopping season is upon us, and before I start churning out my gift guides (aka not-so-subtle hints to my family members of what I’d like to receive come December 25th, please and thanks), I decided to dedicate a full post to this oh-so-cute little gift that plopped through my letterbox last week. Looking for a quirky present for the girl who has EVERYTHING? Look no further than the lovechild of flower delivery company Bloom & Wild and beauty box giants Birchbox: the Birchtree. View Full Post
If you know me well (or even just speak to me for about twenty minutes) then you’ll know the 3 things I absolutely could not do without are fake tan, acryllic nails and false eyelashes. They are my trifecta of ‘going out out’ beauty items, and I think I’d genuinely rather go out without shoes on then without one of them. As such, the fact I’ve been able to try out THREE new eyelash brands lately is just fabulous and also dandy. As much as I love my trusty Eylure and my cheaper Primark Sultry lashes, it’s always good to see what other alternatives are out there and I feel like I’ve now discovered some proper gems. Read on my little friends, read on…
