December Makeup Buys | NARS, NYX & More

Okay, so I know December is supposed to be the month of giving, but I was hit with one of those months where ALL of my makeup ran out at once. All of it. Every last bit (well apart from my Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow Pomade because that stuff will outlive the cockroaches). So I therefore had to go and treat myself to a few bits, employing the “one for you, one for me” method of Christmas shopping. Hugely successful.

First up, I re-purchased my favourite ever mascara, Clarins Be Long. At around £21 it’s a bit pricey, but I had a Debenhams voucher and so all buyers’ guilt was removed, hurrah. Next, I stocked up on some NYX treats. NYX have quickly became one of my favourite drugstore brands, helped along by the fact that the counter in the Coventry Boots is insanely good and well-stocked. This means I can try out some new bits, such as the NYX HD Concealer Wand, alongside the re-purchases of the NYX Micro Brow Pencil and NYX Retractable Lip Liner. I did find that both of these products wore down quite quickly when I had them first time around, but as they’re only about £7 and £5 respectively, re-purchasing isn’t too much of a hardship – especially considering the Micro Brow Pencil is an identical dupe for ABH Brow Whiz (which I also used up in a month, FYI) and the nude lipliner is an everyday product.

My base products also needed replacing, and I decided to go back to two trusty favourites. The Seventeen Stay Time Primer is a product I first tried a couple of years ago (and reviewed here), and I don’t think I’ve tried a primer since that sticks my foundation to my face so well. It’s definitely not a product that everyone will love – it applies very tackily, and leaves a very matte finish – but if longevity is the aim of your foundation game, I think you’ll love it as much as I do. Finally, House of Fraser kindly offered to hook me up with something from their wide selection of makeup, and I couldn’t resist bringing NARS Sheer Glow back into my life. If you read my Sheer Glow review last year then you’ll know about my strong feelings for this foundation, though at first the lack of pump sent me into an insane rage. I now have a pump from a previous bottle, and so this fresh one was welcomed back into my makeup bag with open arms.

Have you been buying any makeup lately? Let me know in the comments!

I lol’ed at the ABH dipbow comment, it’s so true. I’ve been using it for ages and it looks new, I think I’ll pass it down to my grandchildren.

Sheer Glow is the best foundation I’ve tried (for me at least), and I haven’t really been buying any new makeup lately which is so boring, I’ve just been re-buying all my old favourites!
