Makeup Revolution Fast Base Foundation Stick | Review & Swatches

It’s no secret that I’m not exactly quick when it comes to getting on board with trends. Whether it’s a must-have accessory or the latest Netflix craze, I usually get round to trying things about six months later than the masses (bakerboy hats and The Sinner, I’m looking at you both).

However, CHECK THIS OUT. Little Miss Lol-What-Gucci-Belt? has got her hands on the current most-hyped product, Makeup Revolution’s Fast Base Foundation Stick – and before it’s even landed properly in store yet. *Smug smile*

Having never tried a foundation stick before, I was super intrigued when I first saw these mentioned on the ‘gram. As they’re only £5 each, and I was in the unusual position of still having upwards of £15 in my account before payday (#baller), I placed a little order from the Superdrug website last week. I bought three of the Fast Base Foundation Sticks; two to use as foundation and one as a contour shade.

Makeup Revolution Stick Foundation ReviewMakeup Revolution Fast Base Foundation SwatchThere are a total of 18 shades to choose from, which is great to see from an affordable, drugstore brand. They also cater for pink, yellow, peach, cool, warm and beige undertones. I opted for F6 and F8, both of which are the yellow-toned shades of the collection. F6 is closest to my natural skintone, whereas F8 is my perfect match now I’ve fake tanned. I also picked up F14, a dark shade for cool undertones, to try as a contouring product.

So, what do I think? Firstly, I was really impressed by the coverage of the Makeup Revolution foundation sticks. They’re medium-full coverage, super pigmented, and blended into the skin much easier that I expected. This makes it easy to mix your shades if you also buy a couple or want to experiment with contouring with them.

If, like me, you haven’t used a stick foundation before then one struggle can be knowing how much to apply. With a liquid foundation, you tend to know whether you’re a one-pump or a two-pump kinda gal (ooer). With these, I had no idea how many ‘swipes’ was the equivalent. I’d say I overdid it the first time by basically tiger-striping my entire face, but have now found that two swipes per cheek and one each on my nose, forehead and chin tends to be a good amount.

So far, so good. Now onto the thing that I think will divide people: the finish. I feel like we’re used to full coverage foundations being matte, but the Fast Base Foundation Sticks are undeniably dewy. On some skin types, I think this could border on greasy. I have quite normal skin with a slightly oily t-zone, and need to set the foundation with powder (a step I normally miss out because I’m a reckless motherbitch) and then a setting spray to keep it in place.

In terms of how it wears though, I’ve been pleasantly surprised. I expected a product this creamy to slide off my face or crease, but it holds up well. I do have to touch up with powder on my t-zone once or twice through the day – and people with oilier skin might have to do this even more – but otherwise it stays on the skin, doesn’t oxidise and never ends up looking cakey.

All in all, the Makeup Revolution Fast Base Foundation Sticks get a thumbs up from me (despite their STUPIDLY long name). I think people with dry skin will absolutely love them, oily skinned gals might not, and the combo skinned like me might be divided. But at only a fiver a pop, I think we can all give them a go without losing any sleep. If you want to try one out, you can buy them online at Superdrug here, and I believe they’re due in store at the end of March.

Have any of you tried the new foundation yet? Let me know what you think in the comments!

I’ve skeptical of these ONLY because I’ve had a number of fails with Make Up Revolution in the past. I’m super fussy with my foundations because they’re my favourite makeup product to buy. Having said that, I’ve seen soooo much hype and love for these. Might be worth a go!

Hi! I loved your review. I got shades F1 and F2 but both are too light for me. I was wondering if you use any MAC foundation as to check your shade. I’m usually NC20 🙂
