7 Bad Beauty Habits I Can’t Break

Film Title: Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason *handout*

Sometimes, it feels as if the beauty blogging world is full of actual saints on earth. Girls who would rather give up food than miss a night applying their Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery; who have an exfoliating routine involving a big body brush; who wear foundation that matches their skin tone (okay, maybe that’s not too weird – but it is for me). Well, you saintly beauty bloggers are about to get a shock as I confess to you the bad beauty habits that, try as I might, I just can’t seem to break out of:

1. Always blowdrying my hair.

I’m fully aware of the damage that regular blowdrying can do to your hair,- in fact, my crispy bleached locks are solid proof of it. And yet, I still can’t leave my hair to dry naturally. Like, ever. There are several reasons for this. 1. I have shit to do with my day. I don’t have a casual 6 hours in the day before I leave the house where I can leave my hair to luxuriously air-dry. 2. I HATE sleeping on wet hair. That’s a one-way ticket to Flat-Upon-Limpville, my friends.

2. Hairspraying my face.

I don’t actually know where I first picked up this ‘tip’ or why I thought it was a normal thing to do, but after spritzing my hair before a night out I will regularly spray a bit over my face. Why? Because it sets your makeup. You know, like a setting spray does. Like MY setting spray does. And yet I still use my hairspray, rather than the product that was actually designed to do this. I don’t understand why, either; maybe I want my face to have extra volume?

3. Sunbeds.

Please don’t come at me with your pitchforks just yet – I’m aware of the heightened risk that sunbeds put you at, and so I would never dream of using them all year round. But in the run-up to a holiday, I can’t resist booking a course of sunbed minutes to prep my skin before it gets shocked with all of those rays. Sizzle sizzle.

4. Not washing my makeup brushes.

The fact that there are people who wash their makeup brushes weekly is terrifying to me. I know all about the grossness of bacteria, and also know how much better my makeup applies once I’ve washed my brushes, and yet it’s still something I hardly ever find the time to do.

5. Painting over nail polish.

I think I probably have about eight layers of nail polish on my toes. It’s not my fault that I only ever notice they need re-doing just as I’m about to leave the house, is it? As a 5b, I’ve also been known to only paint over my big toe if I’m on my way out and am wearing peep-toes. Yeah, classy stuff right here, people.

6. Never drinking enough water, getting enough sleep or applying enough cream because “Well… Botox.”

They said that prevention is better than cure, but my…. doesn’t that cure looks so damn easy?

7. Sticking false lashes to my actual lashes.

The warning on the box is pretty clear – you should stick strip lashes to your lash line, but NEVER on your actual lashes. The thing is though, I’m an idiot. When I try to stick them to my eyelids, I inevitably end up with an obvious gap, so I apply them pretty much on my lashes. I haven’t lost many, yet

Haha yes! Can concur with the shittiness of air-dried air and never washing my brushes! I don’t even go near false eyelashes, I need more pratise! xx

SO glad I’m not alone here haha – and why practice when you can just stab wildly at your eyes like I do? 😉 xx

This made me laugh so much, wow you have got a couple of naughty habits haha! I always try to make sure I use as little heat as possible on my hair, I am so prone to split ends it’s horrible! My worst beauty habit is keeping make-up past the sell by date, if it smells fine and it still works then it’s not being thrown out haha! x

This is such a great post (: I don’t wash my makeup brushes as often as I should & I paint over old nail polish if I’m feeling lazy..or wearing the same colour. [not just my toes D:] I also bite my nails/pick at my nail polish. xx

    • Claire September 3, 2015 / 11:10 am

So glad it’s not just me! I also pick at the skin around my nails, quite gross aha xx
