Beauty Trend | Let’s Talk Fibres

Fibres 2There was a time when if you’d spoken to me about fibres, then I would have thought we were having a discussion about a big ol’ delicious bowl of a Bran Flakes (other fibre-licious cereals are available). These days though, fibres are big news in the beauty world for adding more volume and/or length to both lashes and eyebrows. As a strong advocate of the ‘more is more’ mantra, I’m of course all over this trend and so have been loving trying out some new fibre products recently.

Firstly, we have the Sheer Cover Lengthening Mascara and Fibres* Like a lot of lash fibres on the market, this comes as a 2 product set with a mascara to use alongside the fibres. You apply the mascara first, then apply the fibres, and then seal them with another coat of the mascara.

Fibres 3Fibres 5I have to say that I’m not a big fan of the mascara, which is no surprise really as I’m just very particular about what sort of wand I like a mascara to have. However, I REALLY like the fibres. They’re much finer than some other fibres I’ve tried in the past, and the fact that they’re white mean you can see better where you’re applying them and be a bit more controlled. This means that you don’t get as much of an intense, clumpy look as you do with some other fibres (we’ve all seen those spider-esque comparison photos on Facebook haven’t we?!) The other good thing about them being white is that you don’t get into a total mess with any fallout on your face, which was one of the other downsides of the black fibres I’ve used before.

I’ve been using the fibres with my own mascara and have been really pleased with the results – because of this, I think it would be good if you could buy the fibres on their own without the mascara. However, that’s probably just me being overly fussy about mascara, and others might like it more. The duo set costs £29.90 and as far as I know can only be bought directly from the Sheer Cover website.

The next product I’ve been using is the Silk Fibre Brow Enhancer* in the shade Medium. These are described as being ‘brush on brow extensions’ and are perfect for creating thicker, longer brows, or filling in sparse areas. The applicator is angled, so that you can use the thinner end on the outer part of your brow where it naturally starts to thin out.

Fibres 4 Fibres 6The first thing I have to mention is how many fibres come out as soon as you open the pot – as you can see for yourselves in the above photo. Once I saw this, I really expected to end up in a total mess after applying this to my brows, but I was actually very pleasantly surprised. There was minimum fall out as I brushed the applicator through and once applied, there was no fall out whatsoever. And what of the effect once applied? Well, there must be some sort of wizardry involved because these actually look INSANELY natural. They somehow cling to the eyebrow hairs you have and so brows don’t look ‘filled in’ like they do with powder or pencil – it actually just looks like hair. Kind of creepy – but kind of fantastic.

As I’m a fan of a very groomed looking brow, I still tidied up the overall appearance afterwards with my angled eyebrow brush. But if you’re a fan of the full, ungroomed look then I think these fibres would be perfect for you as they are. At about £20 they are pretty pricey, but if you’re after a natural look that you really can’t achieve with pencil then I would 100% recommend them. I think they would be especially useful if you have proper gaps in your brows from overplucking (or burning your eyebrows with a lighter, as one of my friends actually did over the weekend – shout out to you James, stay classy).

Fibres 1Overall I’ve really enjoyed using both of these products, and love the more dramatic look that can be created with fibres.

Have any of you tried lash or brow fibres yet? What do you think of this trend?

I’m very particular about the wand of my mascara too but I’d quite like to try the fibres, but I think I like the sound of the brow definer better 🙂 Would love to see the result on you.

Ahh I really wanted to take some photos to show the results but the skin round my eyes has been too irritated lately so they would have looked vile! I’ll try to take some and add them into the post over the weekend though 🙂 xx

both of these sound amazing! I was wondering how well fibre mascara and things would work, I’d definitely like to give them a try and see how they compare with regular mascaras and false lashes xx

I don’t think anything will be QUITE as good as proper falsies, but these definitely add some serious volume 🙂 xx

I have also been really considering using a fibre mascara for my lashes because I have hardly any! I have seen those pictures on Facebook and I won’t lie, I was completely put off! It’s nice to know that there is a product out there that gives you a natural-ish finish. Great post! 🙂 xx

Haha I think those photos are definitely the more extreme end of the fibre trend – I’m not sure why they’re supposed to tempt us to try it?! xx

Everyone raves about these new fiber mascaras I remember having a loreal one like that in high school though, I don’t disputed they’re fab though. Think I need to try this eyebrow stuff though, mine are invisible and thin and generally rubbish, does it come in few colours
