Blog Post Ideas When You’re Absolutely Skint

Blog Post Ideas

Now, I know that blogging tips posts are a little overdone right now and every man and his little blogging Insta-famous dog dishes out ‘how to be better at blogging’ posts (why don’t you shut up Fido, you little know-it-all). But with that being said, there is ONE thing we think we know quite a lot about when it comes to blogging, and that’s how to do it on a budget.

There is a helluva lot of pressure on bloggers to spend a lot of money to keep up with everyone else. If you don’t have new products to review or new clothes to ootd with, then you can end up thinking nobody’s going to be interested. HowevER, this is definitely not the the case. Blogging on a budget can be done; all it takes is a little creativity – just channel your inner Neil from Art Attack. In many cases, this will actually make your blog posts stand out from the rest. I mean, I think we’ve all seen enough Roller Lash reviews now, haven’t we?

If you’re stuck for blog post ideas while you’re saving money, then here are a few we go back to now and then…

Wishlists

So simple, yet so successful – I personally never get bored of reading wishlist posts, as it’s like a little handy round-up of the nicest things on the web. Some people do these weekly, others monthy, and others might just occasionally do them by theme – so an eBay wishlist for example, or a workwear wishlist. Lauren did a 70s Wishlist this week.

Comparison Posts

Another thing that I really enjoy as a reader is a comparison post. This ‘shop your stash’ kind of post can be done easily using the hoards of makeup you probably already have. Pit two or three similar items against each other and talk about which one is best. I did one on 3 of the Best Everyday Lip Shades: MAC, Bourjois and Collection, using products that I had had for ages but in a slightly revamped way.

Empties, Favourites & Disappointing Products

Any post where you can bulk things together and review loads of things at once is bound to be more interesting than a single product review, so think of how you can make a feature out of several older things. I personally don’t like ’empties’ posts too much, just because I think photos of empties packets is a bit weird. BUT they do well for a lot of bloggers, and it is nice seeing a round up of more basic things people have been loving. Similarly, our From Bag to Bin post, where we rounded up products we had never got on with, was one of our most popular.

What’s In My Bag

Now that I’ve written that, it sounds a bit like a catchphrase for perverts. But ‘What’s In My Bag’ posts are always pretty popular, and the beauty is it’s one of those posts you can re-jig again and again. Once you’ve shown us what’s in your handbag, you can then show what’s in your makeup bag, what’s in your going out bag, what’s in your holiday bag, what’s in your sleeping bag if you so damn wish – flog that dead horse, flog!

Tags

Finally, when in doubt, there will always be a ‘tag’ for you to complete. Tags are usually Q&A style posts where you answer pre-written questions and then ‘tag’ other bloggers in to answer next. Popular ones include things like the 20 Facts About Me tag, and the Liebster Award which always pops up now and again. Not only do tags involve minimal effort in terms of spending and photo taking, but they’re also a good way to show people a little about the person behind the blog. Winner winner chicken dinner.

Great ideas. I love a good wish list post – though I then become obsessed with it and just have an insane urge to buy all of it! very very bad for the bank balance but oh so good for the wardrobe!

Hahaha, this is very true – I more often than not do cave and buy a few things off my wishlists! But if we can wait til payday then that’s not too bad, riiiiiight? 😉 xx

Haha I remember good old Neil from Art Attack and that creepy head thing, how funny. I have to blog on a budget as well which can be quite frustrating as you see all these other bloggers who must spend a fortune. Wishlists are my go-to type of posts on the occasions where I really can’t spend any money. xx

Some people definitely must spend an insane amount, which is fine if they have the money of course – but as that would involve bankrupting myself, I’m happy to stick to the wishlists too haha 🙂 xx

I do like a wishlist post. The handbag ones I just don’t get though, I never read these but they seem really popular

My problem with the handbag ones is that surely nobody’s bag is really that neat?! Mine is full of actual rubbish haha xx

Love this! I am saving to move out of my flat now so tbh I gotta stop on all the hauls and binges despite how appealling and tempting they are *sobs!* I never really do tags ever, so I will look into that, and comparison ones are always fun OH and wishlists they go down a treat 😉 xxx

Ooh where are you planning to move into next? It’s SO hard getting out of the habit of buying new things, but you do kind of get used to skint life I think, aha! xx
