Body Shop Drops Of Youth Review

The Body Shop Drops of Youth Wonderblur* | Drops of Youth Concentrate* | Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask* | Drops of Youth Eye Concentrate*

Now that I’m officially in my mid-20s, I’m realising that there are quite a lot of nice things about getting older. These include not always being skint, being able to appreciate owning a nice sofa, not having to really know who 5SOS are… However, the obvious downside to this ageing business is the toll that it can take on our skin. I now have a forehead wrinkle that doesn’t move when I lower my eyebrows. Yeah. It’s serious now. Thankfully, the new Drops of Youth range from The Body Shop recently plonked through my letterbox at just the right time.

What I love about the Drops of Youth range is that it’s not really an anti-ageing range as we know it – these products are designed to “tackle the first signs of ageing” and “give your skin a helping hand before the signs of ageing become clearly visible”. So maybe they won’t be able to help my forehead wrinkle, but if they can prevent too many more from joining her (oh yeah, my wrinkle is a she by the way) then they get a big thumbs up from me.

I’ve only had the range for a couple of days and am still in the middle of my 12 week skincare trial with another brand, so these are just my first impressions of the Drops of Youth products. However, I can safely say that I’m VERY excited by them, and can’t wait to incorporate them into my daily routine.

Body Shop Wonderblur ReviewDrops of Youth Wonderblur* – £17.00

I’ve always heard good things about The Body Shop’s Instablur primer, so was excited to try out the Wonderblur in the hopes that it would be similar. This claims to ‘blur out’ imperfections and fine lines and smooth skin texture – and I have to say, my first impression after trying this is that it does exactly what it says on the tin (/squeezy 30ml tube). The texture is similar to Benefit’s Porefessional, except I’ve never really got on with that, whereas this felt lovely on the skin. It instantly seemed to fill in the larger pores around my nose, and gave my skin a velvety feel.

I don’t think you should ever expect miracles from a primer, and so I wouldn’t agree with its claims that it leaves a ‘flawless finish’ (unless you already have pretty close to flawless skin anyway) as it doesn’t offer anything in the way of coverage. However, it’s definitely one of the best primers I’ve tried and I think my foundation did last a little better today than normal. At £17, the Wonderblur isn’t the cheapest on the market, but I only had to use a tiny bit and so I think it will last quite a long time.

Body Shop Drops Of Youth Concentrate ReviewDrops of Youth Concentrate* – £25.00

I think that our skin all needs some extra help in the winter, and so oils, serums and concentrates always seem to appeal to me more at this time of year. This stuff has rave reviews, and from just trying a tiny bit, I think I can see why. It feels incredibly moisturising and luxurious, without feeling overly oily or heavy.

I should also mention the fragrance of the whole range – at first I thought it might be eucalyptus or aloe vera (I’m crap with scents, but just knew it was something ‘planty’), but it turns out the scent is Edelweiss stem. Nope, I don’t have a clue what they are either,  but all of the products smell amazingly fresh as a result. I think concentrates can be a bit overbearing when they’re perfumed, so the natural scent that this gives off makes it so much more appealing. I’m really looking forward to giving this a proper go and reporting back on the effects it has.

Body Shop Drops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping MaskDrops of Youth Bouncy Sleeping Mask* – £24.00

This was the product that I was most intrigued by when I opened the parcel, as it’s a very large 90ml pot and I’ve never really seen a moisturisr or face mask quite like it. This is actually a bit of a hybrid of the two, as it’s a thick formula designed to be left on overnight, but it does sink into your skin and so doesn’t need washing off as a normal mask does. The consistency of this is quite unique too; I’d describe it as something between a cream and a jelly. In fact, the best thing I can think of to liken it to is a creme brulee. Which I know is one of my weirdest descriptions ever, but I hope ya get me.

I couldn’t resist trying this out last night, and loved it as soon as I started to apply. That fresh smell, and the almost-silky feel of it as it sank in – ooof, bliss I tell you. My one complaint is that it does go slightly tacky as it dries, which felt a bit gross in the crease between by chin and neck (aka my shar pei-like neck roll), but once it had absorbed a bit more it felt lovely. My skin did feel nice and smooth this morning when I woke up, and most importantly my sensitive eye area wasn’t irritated at all. I’m not sure how this would feel with the Concentrate as well, as I don’t tend to like having too many products on my skin at once, but I’m still excited to make this a regular part of my routine.

Body Shop Drops of Youth Eye Concentrate ReviewDrops of Youth Eye Concentrate* – £19.00

This specially-formulated eye concentrate has a roller-ball application to invigorate the eye contour as the concentrate’s applied. This claims to reduce the appearance of eye bags, smooth out fine lines and make eyes appear less tired. I don’t think I’ll get much use out of this for a while, as these sort of products tend to have a bit of a tightening effect on the eyes and because mine are so sensitive at the moment due to winter, I’m really all about the moisturising. However, I’ll definitely still give it a go if I have any late nights in the near future to see if it can magically perk my eyes up. Also, if the other reviews that I’ve read are anything to go by, then people with different skin types to me might absolutely love this.

Overall I’m really impressed so far with the Drops of Youth range. Yes, it’s pretty pricey compared to some other ranges on the market, but from first impressions it seems as if a little will go a long way so you won’t be repurchasing too often. Also, if £85 is the price you have to pay to keep wrinkles at bay then it seems worth it to me.

Have any of you tried the Drops of Youth products? What are your favourite Body Shop products? Let me know in the comments!

I need to get back into a decent skincare routine – as my mum always says I’ll have wished I started sooner when I’m her age haha. These look great though, I’ll have to try!
