Current Favourites: Base Products

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERALike most beauty bloggers, I switch up the products I use quite a lot (thinking about it, it’s no wonder that I’m not in a relationship when I can’t even commit to a mascara). However, there are a couple of base products in my makeup bag that I’ve been reaching for a LOT lately, and it’s safe to say they’ve transitioned into faves of mine.

First up, we have the Makeup Forever Mist & Fix*. This is kind of pricey, but it’s a much bigger bottle than others I’ve seen, so although it’s more expensive it will last you. Also, it’s worth noting that I actually use this twice during my makeup routine at the moment – first, I use a couple of spritzes on my makeup sponge, and then I apply a couple of sprays all over my face once my full makeup is done. And yes, it’s still lasting remarkably well.

Another thing I like about this is that it doesn’t leave my skin feeling remotely wet or tacky, and this weightlessness is very much appreciated considering how many other products are slapped on my face every day. Finally, and the most simple reason why this is a new fave, is that it works. I used to have this issue where my eyeliner and mascara seemed to crawl up my eyelids by the end of the day (maybe I have very sweaty eyelids? Who knows) but since using this setting spray that’s no longer an issue. Winner winner.

My next current favourite base product is my foundation, and it’s blogger favourite, Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation. This is the first drugstore foundation I’ve used in quite a while, so I was happy to find I was so impressed with it. It provides high coverage without looking cakey, and has a bit of a luminous effect that reminds me a bit of NARS Sheer Glow. I wouldn’t say the coverage is quite as flawless as some of my high end foundations, and it doesn’t last quite as perfectly throughout the day. BUT it’s still definitely a really good quality foundation for the price, and I’ll definitely be repurchasing it for day-to-day use.

Finally, my highlighter of the moment is NARS Copacabana Illuminator. This is the most gorgeous pearlescent liquid highlighter, and although it’s really pigmented it still manages to be subtle enough for everyday use. Unless I’ve just lost all concept of subtlety that is, which wouldn’t surprise me.

These are 3 base products I’ve been loving recently, but what are your favourites? Let me know in the comments!

I am currently loving Becca Backlight Primer Filter combined with Catrice Nude Illusion foundation! The Becca primer gives such a gorgeous glow to an otherwise too matte (for me) Catrice foundation, together they are perfection.

I’d love to try a Nars product! Especially because their blushes look amazing. I didn’t have as good of luck with the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation unfortunately – but it’s great that it works for you! I guess I must be one of the outliers haha.

I love the sound of all three products! At the moment, I’m loving Tatcha Luminous Dewy Mist, Becca Backlight Priming Filter & Chanel Les Beiges Healthy Glow – they all work really well together xx

See I’m the total opposite – I have way too much of a cosmetic comfort zone that I’m always trying to get out of! 🙂 I’ve never used any makeup sprays or liquid highlighters but they’re both products I’ve been looking into so thanks for the recommendations here – especially like the looks of the illuminator for summer! x

I would love to try that NARS highlighter, it sounds absolutely wonderful and I’ve read so many good reviews on it! I’ve also heard a lot of good things about the Healthy Mix foundation, but I remember trying it years ago and unfortunately it didn’t work for me again. Tempted to re-visit that one, though. Thanks for sharing, hun! <3
