From Bag to Bin II: More Products to Avoid

Bag to Bin 1

Bag to Bin 2Hey there sexy ladies! Over a  year ago we did our first  From Bag to Bin post, where we outlined 4 products you should definitely avoid. You seemed to like knowing that not to waste your money on,  and we certainly liked the chance to bitch in the name of blogging, and so we decided it was high time we followed up with a newer post. A lot of crappy products have been bought over the last 12 months, and here are 5 of the crappiest…

Bag to Bin 3

Collection Cream Puff in Powder Puff 2

I had always heard good things about the Cream Puffs from Collection, and as nude shades are absolutely my thaaaang, I had kept my eyes peeled for this exact shade for ages. For some reason, it was always sold out in my local Boots, which convinced me even more that it must be amazing and I NEEDED it. I finally found it a couple of weeks ago and snapped it up straight away, only to be completely disappointed. This is supposed to be a creamy formula that then dries matte, however as soon I pulled the wand out the product looked dry and cakey. It applies really thinly so you don’t even get full coverage, and then it just clings to random parts of your lips. I know this is a popular product, so I’m tempted to think this is just a bit of a dud – but either way, I’m not rushing to buy another to give it a go.

Bag to Bin 4L’Oreal Infallible Foundation

You might be quite surprised to see this here, as it’s undoubtedly been one of the most raved about drugstore foundations of the year. However, when Lauren tried this out, she didn’t get on with it at all. You can read her full review of L’Oreal Infallible, but if you would just like a referesher then she described it as being ‘a patchy mask of shit’. That girl has a way with words, let me tell you.

Bag to Bin 5Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balm

Even I’m a bit surprised to see this product featured, and it’s me who has put it in. When the Colorburst Matte Balms came out last year, we absolutely loved them (you can read our rave review here) and I still say they are some of the best lip products I own. About six months ago I picked up one of the glossy versions, the Lacquer Balm in Demure. It has the same pretty packaging and peppermint smell, but that’s really where the comparison ends. I understand that the glosses are meant to be less pigmented than the matte finishes, but the colour pay-off on this is just really weak. It feels a bit like you’re just rubbing a glittery pencil on your lips, and it’s quite gritty. I’m not sure if other colours in the Lacquer Balm may work better with this formula, but once again I’m in no rush to find out.

Bag to Bin 6Makeup Revolution Ultra All Day Prime & Anti-Shine Balm

I find Makeup Revolution to be quite a hit and miss brand, and for me, this product was definitely in the miss category. This odd, waxy ‘balm’ is supposed to be used either as a primer or in place of your powder. I found it to be thoroughly useless at either stage, and since writing my lukewarm review I haven’t touched it once.

Bag to Bin 7Amazon Makeup Brush

Yes, that is the head of the brush snapped clean off. Lauren learned the hard way that buying cheap isn’t always a good idea. Sometimes, maybe we should just stick to the Real Techniques ladies.

Bag to Bin 8Of course, I will pop a little disclaimer in here and say that just because these products didn’t work for us, doesn’t mean they won’t work for other people. For example, Lauren accepts that her skin type may have been the reason the Infallible foundation was super-fallible on her, and I was maybe just expecting too much from the glossy Revlon crayon after loving the matte versions so much. It’s hard to give a balanced argument for that brush, though…

Have you tried anything you’ve been disappointed by lately? Or are you actually a fan of any of these products? Let us know in the comments!

I’m surprised and not at the same time to see the L’Oreal Infallable foundation in the list. I tried the true match foundation which i’d also seen everyone raving about and it didn’t work well for me. Thanks for sharing the post, as finding products to stay away from is always a good thing. I’d rather spend more on another product in that case.

Definitely, I hate wasting money on things that turn out to be useless! Glad you liked it 🙂 xx

Such a useful post ladies. I too hated the Collection creme puffs, so so drying and unflattering. A shame about the foundation as it sounds awesome. Great post girls 🙂

Thank you, glad you found it useful! Also SO pleased it’s not just me who hated the Creme Puff, as people seem to absolutely love them? xx

I actually quite like that brush…but I do agree on the foundation. Yet no one else seems to agree, every time I say I don’t like it people look at me like I’ve grown another head!

It’s quite bizarre how everyone seems to love it, but different strokes hey! Well, we would be happy to sell you the gorgeous brush, how does £10+p&p sound? 😉 xx

I have to say I think you must have got a dud because the cream puffs by Collection 2000 are amazing! I’ve owned mine for years (I know that’s not a good thing…) and they’re still as good as they were the day I bought them. It sucks that you got a crap one because they are great. 🙂

Ahh, I really think I must have because I’ve honestly always heard such good things! Maybe if I’m feeling completely wild on payday I COULD shell out the £2.99 and try another 😉 Though think I would try another shade to be on the safe side! xx

Love this post! Sometimes I feel like people give products a positive review even if they don’t really like it…it’s nice to hear your honesty!

I think it was their True Match foundation that I really liked for a couple of years, but I think some brands just don’t work for certain people. Such a shame as some people really do seem to love it! xx

I haven’t tried ANY of these products and actually I probably won’t be now hahah I am easily swayed and really dislike wasting my money especially when I am skint, so thanks for the heads up ladies xxx

Haha I’m exactly the same! xx

This post was really useful! I’m always trying out new drugstore foundations and I haven’t found the one that would suit me best. It’s always something, if not the texture then it’s always the wrong shade. You just saved me from wasting my money on another useless foundation. Also, I just started my own beauty blog and today I posted my first post, so you’re welcome to check it out 🙂 Love, Lucija

Ahh it’s SUCH nightmare trying to find the perfect foundation isn’t it! I was always a fan of the Rimmel True Match foundation (though I used to have to mix two shades together) and Lauren really likes the Rimmel Lasting Finish if you haven’t tried either of those. Will go and take a peek at your blog now! 🙂 xx

Eurgh I do NOT understand the hype about Infallible AT ALL! I wear MAC Strobe Cream AND Smashbox’s Photo Finish Hydrating Primer and my skin was still cakey as shit! I do not understand how people love it- tried applying it with a buffing brush, foundation brush, sponge, fingers… JUST DOESN’T WORK! Very useful post girls, love this blog so much xx

    • Claire May 20, 2015 / 10:10 am

I think it’s definitely one of those products that people either love or hate! xx
