Is It Ever Too Late?

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWatch: Nordgreen* | Co-Ord: Primark

The topic of this post has been rattling around my brain for a while; but without a sold thread to loop it all together, I ended up leaving it to tumble around with all of my other half-formed ideas and un-tweeted opinions on Love Island.

Then, as I was snapping these photos of the b-e-a-utiful Silver Mesh Philosopher* watch I was kindly sent from Nordgreen, I realised that this was the essence of the post: time and whether it’s ever ‘too late’.

So, to give some context, it’s no secret that I’ve been seriously MIA on the blogging front in the last quarter of the year. After getting my mojo back at the start of the year, I then started a new job at the end of March and the mojo mojo-ed off and left me once again.

I didn’t sweat it too much. After all, blogging and posting on social are things that can be paused and resumed as and when you like (for us part-time bloggers anyway). Sure, your engagement will drop off the face of the earth and your inbox will dry up, but generally speaking your audience should still be there when you’re ready to get cropping and filtering again.

But there was one thought that popped up a couple of times during my blogging dry spell – and, if I’m honest, even while I was back to being excited about my content between January and March –  and it was this:

Have I just missed my chance with blogging anyway?

I’ve been blogging since 2013, and so have spent a whopping 5 years on the scene that has changed other people’s lives and created a whole new industry. I’ve seen girls who started out around the same time as me grow into bonafide social influencers, reaping the rewards of their hard word and earning a full-time wage (and then some – GET THAT PAPER, HUNS).

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI’ve never resented anyone’s success, but I have sometimes thought that maybe I wasted a chance to enjoy similar levels myself. There were definitely windows of opportunity for growth and exposure that I didn’t make the most of (shout-out to anyone who remembers the nomination in Company’s Blogger of the Year Awards) (which yes I do still have on my CV, haha). I also could have taken a shot at YouTube, tried harder with Instagram pre-algorithm dramas, and made more effort to attend networking PR events.

BUT I DIDN’T. And you know what? Although it’s crossed my mind that I could be a lot more ‘successful’ in the world of blogging, I really don’t think I care.

I never had the urge to go hard and make blogging my career, which I suppose is the answer to why I never fully tried. And I hope this doesn’t sound like I’m being arrogant and like ‘well I COULD be Zoella if I like, WANTED to’ – I just mean that blogging has always been something I’ve dedicated a relatively small amount of my time to, and I’ve been over the moon with each and every opportunity it’s resulted in.  OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe fact that with my comparitively small amount of success, I’m still able to enjoy the lovely occasional brand collab and blogging treat is a huge comfort to me when I think that maybe I wasted time and chances. Also, I do strongly believe that it’s never too late to change your situation.

Yep, life is often about timing and some things might have been easier to do five years ago than they are now. But if I chose to really throw my all into my blog or Instagram tomorrow, I don’t think it’s at all too late to change the direction I want to move in. Just as I don’t think it’s ever too late to start over in your fitness journey, re-build broken friendships or even re-programme your entire brain to live with a happier mindset (but that’s a topic for a whoooole other post).

So if you ever have a mini wobble and think you’ve left it too late or missed your shot, my advice would be that you haven’t (in most circumstances, anyway – even I admit I might have left it a bit late in the day now to become an Olympian gymnast).

A huge thank you to Nordgreen to gifting me with the watch that ultimately helped me pull this post together. If you’re looking for a new watch then I 100% recommend checking them out – not only are the watches beautifully on-trend, with options for men and women, but they also have a fantastic ‘Giving Back’ program. When you buy a watch. you’re given a unique ID number. Using this number on the website, you can choose for the brand to contribute to one of three causes for you, which is such a lovely touch.

You can find out more, and check out all of the brand’s collections, here. I was also lucky enough to receive the Infinity Pink Leather watch, which you can take a closer look at over on my Instagram.

I completely see where you’re coming from here and have felt the same in the past. I really started blogging seriously in late 2015 but it took me forever to come into Instagram and I really wasn’t focussing enough on quality for a long time. That all said – what will be will be! It’s hard to ever be totally satisfied and for sure someone will look as this post and think “what’s she talking about?! I wish I was as successful as her blogging wise”

    Ps. Love the watch!

Loved reading this post! I started blogging in 2013 too and sometimes wish I’d put a bit more effort in earlier on – who know’s where I’d be now!xx

I completely feel the same. I’ve been blogging for 5 years and there were plenty of opportunities for me to make more of a success of it. But I was concentrating on university and building my career elsewhere. I kind of feel sometimes like I’ve missed my chance, but I still enjoy blogging anyway! xx
