James Bushell Birmingham Salon | Review

James Bushell Harvey NicholsNo, your eyes do not deceive you: it’s me, I am alive! I’ve been so busy adjusting to my new job that I haven’t updated for well over a month, which is a travesty because it means I’ve been keeping the news about this amazing salon to myself. And I’m super sorry about this, because as well as being alive for the last month, I’ve also been livin’ life with the most beautiful hair.

(If I do say so myself. Which I do.)

I was recently invited to the James Bushell salon located inside the Harvey Nichols store in The Mailbox, Birmingham. I’d heard of James Bushell salons before, as they have three stores across Birmingham and Solihull, so was really excited to check them out.

My first impressions from the moment I popped by for my skin test were fantastic – the salon is stunning (helloooo, just look at all this marble) and the staff are all so friendly and professional. As you would expect from the super-luxe setting of Harvy Nics, you feel like a VIP from the minute you step into the salon – even when you turn up with roots that practically reach your neck, like me.

James Bushell Salon ReviewI had my appointment with Lucy, the salon manager. Going to a new stylist for the first time can be a  big deal, but straight away I felt at ease with Lucy and knew I was in safe hands. As well as completely getting what I wanted to achieve, she was also completely unfazed by my hair extensions (something that other stylists have been a bit wary of dealing with in the past. Wimps).

If you’ve been following my blog for a while then you’ll know that up until March of last year, I had a full head of bleached hair that I toned to grey/silver. I finally made the transition to a more natural blonde with a root drag, and since then I’ve gradually been trying to tone my colour down more and more. Previously, my stubborn bleached ends had meant that I couldn’t go quite as dark blonde as I was hoping, and I’d resigned myself to having to wait longer for it to grow out.

However, Lucy was confident that it would be easy AF to tone both my own hair and my weave to a darker blonde using semi-permanent colours – and I was amazed at just how perfect the results turned out! Drum. Roll. Please…OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

All in all I had my root tint, some highlights, a toner, and a blow dry so was in the salon for around three hours. My entire experience at James Bushell was a fantastic one, and I wouldn’t hesitate to go back for follow-up appointments.

I also think that for the level of expertise – as well as straight-up boujee vibes of the Harvey Nichols salons – the prices are really reasonable. You can check out the full price list, but colours start £48 and blow drys are £35 (though these prices are even cheaper at the Edgbaston and Solihull salons, FYI).

A huge thank you to the team at the James Bushell salon in the Mailbox – especially Lucy – for looking after me so well!
