Lazy Girls’ Haircare Tips

Haircare

If you know me, then you’ll know that my hair is pretty much my pride and joy, my comfort blanket, my best friend (too far? Nah).  I often decide if I like someone based on their hair, and I think that the scene in Tangled where Rapunzel gets her hair cut is legit one of the most traumatic in film history. In short: hair is very important to me.

What’s weird then, is how little care I actually put in to keeping it in good condition. We all know the things that we should be doing to keep our locks healthy, but we don’t always have time for trims every six weeks and weekly hair masks (Mob Wives is back on TV now, after all). If you do, then congrats – I applaud you. But if you’re like me, and are guilty of a bit of hair neglect, then here are some small changes you can make that could help give your hair a little boost…

Give your hair a break from heat

It’s a boring one, but as heat can be one of most damaging things for hair, cutting back on the amount of times a week we use appliances can really make a difference. I confessed in my Bad Beauty Habits post that I rarely leave my hair to dry naturally; but I do try to use things such as sleep-in rollers or bendy rollers so that I rely on the curling wand less. Dry shampoo is also another obvious one, as less hair washing means less hair drying. Winner winner.

Wave more

If you do need to use heat appliances to style your hair, then a good idea is to opt for waves over straight styles. Personally if I straighten my hair one day, then I’ll need to straighten it again the next as there are bound to be some weird kinks going on. Wavier hair is much more forgiving, so you can sleep on it/get caught in the wind/tie it up for a bit and it won’t look that much different – meaning you won’t need to apply heat as often to correct it. Most straighteners now can be used to create gorgeous waves or curls, SUCH AS MY BEAUT NEW ROSE GOLD GHDs (yes, that was a shameless excuse to show them off). Running some oil through the ends of waves can also help keep them looking sleek so you don’t get tempted to straighten away some of the frizz.

Switch up your shampoo

I’ve read before that our hair can get too used to a shampoo and conditioner if we’ve been using it for a while, and we can end up with a build up of that product in our hair. It’s therefore recommended that we switch shampoos around every six months. I’ve been a religious user of the Pro:voke Touch of Silver range for a couple of years now, but have recently been using some Alumine samples that I was kindly sent. The Alumine range is all enriched with organic and vegan ingredients, so are even better for giving your hair a break from overly-processed products. I’ve tried out the Soya and Boabob Oil Shampoo and Conditioner*, which – as well as smelling absolutely amazing – definitely left my hair feeling refreshed. Changing your shampoo can give your hair a much needed boost, so is a very small thing you can do when it needs some TLC.

For me hair is such a chore, I love doing my make-up but hair ughhh…
I really need to give my hair a break from heat more often as my only hair style is running the straighteners through my hair, I think I might start plaiting my hair the night before to get beach waves.

Ahh I know what you mean, I don’t find it anywhere near as fun as makeup (or even skincare..!) I used to plait mine a lot and loved the effect actually, might have to copy you there 😉 xx

Such great tips! I would definitely say switching up shampoos and using moroccan argan oil are my two essential hair care musts! Also, can we talk about your Rosegold GHD?! Like oh my god!! I totally need that in my life haha!

Ooh I love argan oil too, it’s such a lifesaver! Haha thank you, I am still ever so slightly obsessed by them myself 🙂 xx

I’m so bad with the heat, my hair gets blow dried and straightened everyday, not good! I just can’t go a day without washing though

Ahh I suppose I’m lucky (/gross) that I can get away with only washing it twice a week – would definitely be blow drying it every day otherwise! xx

Those GHDs! I definitely need to wear waves more, as you said it’s a great way to lay off the straightening 🙂 xx

Great tips, I try to give my hair some rest once in awhile. I keep switching my shampoo and always try to find the one that would be better for the hair x

Literally drooling over your straighteners! I have such a soft spot for anything rose gold. I definitely agree that hair needs a break from heat every once in a while. I always try to let mine dry naturally, rather than blow drying it x

Those rose-gold ghds are just swoon worthy! I’m so bad at washing my hair too often, as I hate the feeling of dirty hair and dry shampoos make my scalp all itchy! I try to balance my over-washing habit out by leaving my hair to dry naturally as much as possible, instead. Fortunately, my locks don’t seem to be in too bad a condition 🙂
