Miller & Carter, Stratford-Upon-Avon | Review

If you love food as much as I do, then this post is for you. Not only does it contain a review of the brand new Stratford-Upon-Avon Miller & Carter restaurant (complete with snaps of some proper drool-worthy food), but I’ve also teamed up with steakhouse to give one of you the chance to win a gift card to visit your local!

Read til the end to find out how you can enter the giveaway; but for now, onto Miller & Carter’s brand new home in Stratford-Upon-Avon.

First of all, the location of the new restaurant is lovely. If you’re local to the Coventry / Warwickshire area then first of all WOO, FRIEND you might have heard about the new Bell Court complex in Stratford. It’s a super-cute courtyard filled with restaurants, shops and an Everyman cinema, making Miller and Carter the perfect place to swing by after a film or day of shopping. I took my boyfriend along on a mid-week date night, and the atmosphere was great – busy enough to not feel like you were alone, but quiet enough that you could soak up the relaxed vibes and be well looked after.

We were seated by one of the lovely waiting team, and ordered some drinks while we browsed the menu (Aperol Spritz for me and a coke for James because I’d volunteered him as my designated driver, HEEHEE).

Now let’s address the elephant in the room: I’ve gone vegetarian. What was I going to order in a steakhouse?! However, I was happy to see there were plenty of veggie-friendly options on the menu. And of course, I had meat-loving BF on hand to sample the carnivorous options and feed back. For our starters, he went for the sticky Chipotle chicken. These moreish little bites were glazed with sweet chilli and sesame seeds, and I have to admit I had a wee bit of #MeatEnvy.

I went for the nachos, which was an incredibly generous single portion (so generous that James seemed to feel the need to start ‘helping’ me once he’d polished off his chicken. No mate. Hands off). They were topped with guac, salsa, sour cream and cheese and were baked to PERFECTION. I half wish I’d gone for the sharing option, though that would have resulted in me being rolled out of the restaurant. I think it would’ve been worth it though.

Then it was on to the mains. James obviously took one for the team and went for the fillet steak. He’s probably one of the fussiest eaters I know, so the fact that he polished off the steak, seasoned fries and crispy onion loaf spoke volumes about the meal. I’m afraid he did leave the lettuce wedge though – anything too green scares him.

I’d obviously checked the menu online beforehand because hello, who doesn’t fantasise about their dinner at least three days before? Anyway, online there were only two veggie options for the main: a butternut squash roulade, or a beetroot and cous cous salad. I was quite looking forward to the roulade, but then on the Stratford menu I spotted a veggie burger and immediately switched my order. The heart wants what it wants, and that night my heart wanted carbs and grease.

The burger was one of the tastiest I’ve had since turning veggie; not at all dry, packed with flavour and accompanied by the nicest fries and slaw. Zero #MeatEnvy from me this time around.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAFinally, we were asked if we had room for pudding. My answer: always. I had to go for my number 1 favourite, creme brulee, which was served with fresh berries and a home baked biscuit. James went a bit more adventurously for the chocolate hazelnut bomb, which looked AMAZING. Cracking the nutty shell revealed a rich chocolate ganache/mousse inside – I was actually too full to even steal a bit from his plate, but it got top marks from him and looked delicious.

Overall I loved our first experience of the Stratford Miller & Carter. The service was great, all of the food was delicious and the surroundings were lovely. We both had three courses, along with drinks, and our bill came to just under £80, which I think is also really good value for a slightly swankier night out.
