Neons and Brights

Up until approximately two weeks ago, I was a staunch hater of neon. I pretty much thought it looked horrible on everyone, I vowed never to buy anything flourescent ever and I strongly believed that it was the worst trend to come from the fashion wizards since they allowed corduroy to happen. In fact, it almost got to the point of shouting ‘GO HOME NEON, YOU ARE DRUNK’ every time I saw a bit of bright clothing on the high street.

I’m not really sure what life changing moment I had or when I had a hysterical mental breakdown, but suddenly I’m the neon fashion trend’s biggest fan. I literally can’t get enough of it. In the last three days, I’ve bought THREE bits of neon brights to add to my wardrobe and there is no sign of stopping. Claire and I have decided that it may have been this lovely neon leopard print top (which we spied on Lydia Faye Jones’ blog) that was the real game changer

Friday night planning for Saturday night’s outfit suddenly became filled with bright and hopeful ideas of a neon green skater skirt (which you may have seen me whinge about on Twitter). I went shopping in Birmingham with my dear mother on Saturday and thankfully found the exact skirt I had created in my mind. I also, however, found a second skirt in a neon coral that couldn’t be ignored, so the only solution was to cry hysterically that my life would never be the same again unless I got the coral skirt too. Mum thankfully took the bait and said she’d treat me to the coral number, probably because I was causing a horribly embarrassing scene. I wore the greeny yellow one for a night out on Saturday (for the full outfit listing, check out our ‘Outfit of the Day‘ post) and I wore the coral one when I popped up to Birmingham on Sunday.

Here are a couple of slightly crap quality pictures of them both – as you can see, I am a big fan of a skater skirt because it suits my body shape (and pretty much everyone).

My neon obsession didn’t stop there. On Sunday I traipsed back to Birmingham to stay with a pal. There was a terrible ‘oh my giddy aunt’ moment when I realised that I hadn’t packed enough for work on Tuesday, so clearly the only option was to go shopping again. I headed back to H&M, because pretty much EVERYTHING they have in at the moment is amazing, and added a minty neon green to my collection of brights. Here’s a little snap from work today, so excuse my desk face. The dress is so bright it seems to be reflecting on the wall…excellent.

What are you all thinking of neon at the moment? Yay or nay? Dope or nope? I’m seriously hoping it’s a fashion trend that’s here to stay because there is a real chance that my wardrobe is going to look like a highlighter-obsessed child’s pencil case by the end of the summer.
