Missguided Party Dress Wishlist

It’s no secret that Lauren and I love Missguided – not just a bit, but mega loads. They have SO many clothes on the site that you never really have to worry about bumping into someone else wearing the same dress as you, and their stuff for the most part is really reasonably priced (especially the Sweet Deal range, which has expanded even more since our original post on it a few months ago).

I’ve got a party to go to in a few weeks and have been eying up a lot of potential outfits on the site; but due to my title as the Most Indecisive Girl in the Midlands 2013, I can’t pick which one I like best. Usually, I’d order a couple and return the ones I liked least – however, my one bug bear with Missguided is that you end up being charged for returns (NOT COOL) so I’m not keen on this idea. I’ve therefore put together a little shortlist of my favourite pieces at the mo.

The contenders are…

Missguided Wishlist 1
Chiffon Playsuit (£20.49) – I ‘m a big fan of playsuits (despite the inevitable nakedness when you go to the loo, which is awkward when you share cubicles with your mates and have to shout ‘FACE THE DOOR! DON’T LOOK AT ME YOU PERVERT!’) and love the smudge print of this one. I also like the chiffon and the loose waist, which will be perfect for the large amount of buffet food I’ll inevitably consume at the party.

Strappy Chiffon Playsuit (£24.99) – chiffon, check, playsuit, check – I sense a theme. Burgundy is one of my favourite colours for A/W and so I think this is a great choice for a November party. Sometimes thin straps make my shoulders look approximately seven feet wide though, so this one is not quite top of my list.

Leather and Tweed Dress (£24.99) – this dress ticks two trend boxes in one, but would the length be a little too short for a party full of my friend’s family members? I don’t want anyone’s auntie Sue thinking I’m a hoochie (even if I am)(that was a joke)(or was it?)

Missguided Wishlist 2

Strappy Chain Mini Dress (£24.99) – gold chains on clothes always screams ‘River Island’ to me, but I’ve noticed them popping up a lot more recently am slowly starting to wonder whether I actually don’t find them hideous anymore. I like the double-strap of this one, plus I’m once again thinking of how well that loose fit would cope with my buffet over-indulgence!

Flower Print Playsuit (14.99 in sale) – this is just the flippin’ cutest thing ever in my opinion, and currently half price in the sale, my ‘buy it now’ urges are strong.

Jungle Print Mini Dress (£24.99) – the green and purple contrast is what really catches my eye with this dress, and the jungle print is really unique.

So, these are currently the dresses and playsuits in the running for my party outfit – but which one gets your vote?

New Brand Launch: NOWSEEN Jewellery

Now Seen 3As young women of the 21st century, I would say we’re all pretty used to faking it. And by this, I mean faking our jewellery… obviously (minds out of the gutters please).

Lauren and I are both big fans of statement jewellery – as a general rule, the bigger and blingier the better – but our poor graduate budgets mean that usually we end raiding the stands at Primark to get our fake fix. Last week, though, an email popped into our inbox that means that all this could soon be about to change.

NOWSEEN (yes, you have to shout it) is a new online store due to launch this week that specialises in fashion-focused jewellery. This is pretty exciting in itself; most highstreet stores stock jewellery almost as an afterthought, and I can’t  think of many jewellery-exclusive stores aimed at our market.

But what really caught my attention about this brand is that we’ll no longer have to fake it. All of the jewellery is made with precious metals and real gemstones. Do you know what this means? NO MORE GREEN FINGERS!

NowSeen 1I would have thought that real pieces like these would be far above my meagre budget, but prices on NOWSEEN are going to start as low as £10. Considering you can pay as much as £20 in some high street stores for costume jewellery that can fall apart the first time you wear it, this is amazing for investment pieces that will last you a lifetime.

As well as offering genuine quality pieces, NOWSEEN is also incredibly fashion-forward. Their jewellery promise to be edgy and on-trend, with stacker rings, friendship bracelets and statement cocktail rings all available.

NowSeen 2These sneak peek images have got me super super SUPER excited for the launch, and I can’t wait to see the full range once the site is live. We’ve also heard a cheeky rumour that to celebrate their launch, NOWSEEN will also be running a competition on Facebook for one lucky winner to win £200 worth of jewellery from their A/W 2013 collection. You can keep up with their Facebook page to find out more about this once it launches.

What do you all think of NOWSEEN? Would you be interested in buying ‘real’ jewellery?

Currently Watching: eBay Wishlist #2

eBay List October

Another month, another endless list of eBay delights!

Fedora Hat – £9.98
Fedoras are hugely in fashion this A/W, but they’re the sort of item I’m just not sure if a) I can pull off without looking like a try hard twit, and b) I would be brave enough to wear without the fear of a gust of wind tearing it away from me. For these reasons, I wouldn’t want to spend a lot of money on one, so this one coming in at under a tenner (with free P&P, HOLLA) is the perfect way to experiment with the trend.

Ring Display Hand – £3.95
I’m still on the fence as to whether this is cool or a bit tacky and creepy. Even if it’s the second, I still want it to be honest. My rings are currently stored in a variety of different jewellery and trinket boxes, but I think something like this is much more fun. It’s also nice to see jewellery actually displayed and used decoratively in a room.

Fur Gilet – £22.23
As we go into the colder months, my deep and passionate lurrrve for fur comes out in full force. Two fur coats, a fur hat and a new fur collar are simply not enough – I also need this fur gilet for those days when my body’s all chilly but my arms are all toasty.

Printed Shorts – £9.59
I know these are completely unseasonable, but I am in love with the paisley print on these shorts. I also think the warm hues make them kind of autumnal… um, right?

Poster – £6.49
I’ve had my eye on this for a while, and now that we’ve just moved into our new house I think I have a definite reason to buy it. Even if my life is more about drinking tea and falling asleep on the sofa these days…

What do you all think of this wishlist? What are you loving on eBay at the moment?

Outfit of the Day: Winter Pastels & Leather Leggings

OOTD 15th Oct FInalJumper: c/o New Look | Leather-Look Leggings: River Island (old) | Shoes: Converse | Beanie: H&M | Jewellery: Primark

I face many, many challenges as we head into winter, including how to avoid slipping over on the ice when wearing heels and how to go about sneaking my slanket into work with me. The biggest one of all though, is trying to battle my natural instincts to wear nothing but chunky knitwear, leggings and Uggs. My penchant for dark colours also comes out most strongly during the colder months, so if left to my own devices I would most likely be constantly seen solely in big, dark jumpers, as if in mourning for, I dunno, my fashion sense?

I therefore decided that this mint jumper from New Look HAD to be mine if I wanted a fighting chance of keeping some sort of colour in my winter wardrobe. How nice is the colour?! It’s perfect for the winter pastel trend, which I decided to make the most of by also wearing my lilac Converse. The jumper’s an Angora blend, so feels very luxurious, if a tad itchy (it’s the itch of rich people though, so you have to love it). It’s actually quite a slim fitting jumper, so I bought this in a size 16 for a slouchy, oversized feel.

The beanie’s also a new addition to my wardrobe. I can never really decide if I suit hats; I have a weirdly massive head and I think sometimes they emphasize that while making my face look even smaller, like a pea. However, beanies are just too comfy to ignore this winter, and this one cost just £3.99 from H&M so is an absolute bargain. They’re also superb for hiding roots – er, not that that’s why I’m wearing mine… ahem.

OOTD 15th Oct Collage AccessoriesI like the mixture of prettiness and grunge in this outfit. Did I just say grunge? Yes, I unfortunately did, let’s just move on with our lives. It’s also ludicrously comfortable and so could perhaps be the sort of outfit to pull me out of my boring routine this autumn/winter.

What do you all think of this outfit? What are your tips for staying stylish in the winter months?

Outfit of the Day: Winter Floral Swing Dress & Primark Brogues

OOTD 5th Oct 2

Hola amigos and amigettes. We had a SUPER busy weekend here at Stylingo HQ; what with it being my birthday on Friday this of course meant that the celebrations had to carry on into the weekend. That’s what birthdays are basically about after all, isn’t it? Just stretching out for as long as possible the amount of time that people have to be nice to you and buy you food? Here is my OOTD from Saturday afternoon, when I went out for lunch with a friend. Nothing says ‘happy birthday Claire’ quite like free bubble tea and chicken fajitas. I was a happy egg.

OOTD 5th Oct CollageFloral Swing Dress: Cameo Rose c/o New Look | Tights: Primark | Brogues: Primark | Bag: Marc B

Not to toot my own wardrobe’s horn too much, but I’m quite in love with this outfit (dishevelled left shoelace aside). I wasn’t sure whether swing dresses would be flattering on me or not due to their swampy nature, but I actually think it sits really nicely – and allows for chicken fajita bloat, which is an added bonus. I had to wear a bandeau underneath because it falls quite low at the back and I didn’t feel like flashing the world the back of my bra, but I think that’s mainly down to my lack of boobs making it fit a bit baggier on me.

OOTD 5th Oct 4
OOTD 5th Oct 5My favourite part of the dress is the print; it can be hard for florals to look winter-appropriate but I think the colours in this dress work perfectly. The orange in the dress also help the brogues (which appeared in my birthday haul post) to work with this outfit – I used to be a passionate hater of wearing brown with black, but I think when there are other colours thrown into the mix like with this outfit then all is fair in love and fashion.

I’m waffling now, I literally have no idea what I’m even talking about. But let me know what you think of this outfit!

October Birthday Haul: Marc B, Juicy Couture, Primark, Sleek & More!

Bday Haul AllHi there errybody! I’ve got a few minutes free on the retirement home’s desktop before a rousing mid-afternoon game of backgammon accompanied by a fine glass of sherry awaits me, so thought I’d quickly do a post for all of you young’uns. In case you’re wondering what in the name of all that is holy I’m waffling on about, I am of course referring to the fact that I turned 23 on Friday and am now probably the World’s Oldest Blogger.

I actually had a really nice birthday, despite my mammoth reservations in the run-up to the occasion. The actual day was quite a nice chilled one; I took the day off work to see various family members and friends, shop and eat cake. Then last night I went out for dinner with some of my besty friends, which was inevitably followed by cocktails, spiking our own fishbowls and crap dancing. Superb.

As it was my birthday I received some absolutely amazing presents, which I thought I would share with you all now in the form of a birthday haul post! Some of these were given to me, others were bought with birthday money – all have equal amounts of love attached to them.

Bday Haul 1Marc B ‘Giselle’ Bag in Maroon: Be still my beating heart! I’ve been after a Marc B bag for ages; they’re so sophisticated and classic, yet also retain a fun element with the leopard print lining and gold plaque detailing. I desperately needed a new everyday bag as my Topshop one was literally going bald (damn you, leopard print panel!), so when my dad asked what I wanted for my birthday, this was top of my list. It is absolutely BEAUTIFUL. It’s also bloody massive – you can see it in its full glory in this OOTD post where you will see that it has basically made me look like even more of a Borrower.

Bday Haul 2Leopard print throw, ear muffs and thermos: my dad sent my sister on a shopping mission to pick up a few more presents for me (I know, how lovely of him! I think he takes pity on me not having a boyfriend so spoils me more as a result) and she oh so wisely picked up an array of leopard print treats. The thermos is a particular fave; tea AND animal print, TOGETHER?! No finer combination of things has ever existed.

Bday Haul ClothesClothes: knowing how dear Primark is to my heart, my sister also picked me out a few bits from there.

Bday Haul 7Viva La Juicy Noir: I’ve loved this since I got the sample version in one of my Glossyboxes and now a full size bottle is mine!

Bday Haul 12Game of Thrones figurine: ’nuff said

Bday Haul 11Makeup: with some birthday money from my momma, I couldn’t resist buying some new makeup. I ordered the Sleek stuff about a week ago, and decided to get the BB Cream in the ‘Fair’ shade to actually match my skin tone (shudder) and a new lipstick in the shade ‘Cherry’. I picked up the Barry M bits in town – I opted for the new matte nail polish in black, the new Natural Glow eyeshadow and blush palette and then because of an offer I got the Lash Vegas mascara for free for spending over £10! I am always a bargain hunter, even when it’s someone else’s money. I also bought this eyebrow pencil from Maybelline.

Bday haul PriBrogues and rings: couldn’t resist popping into Primark and picking up these beauties. I’ve been after some brogues  for ages but have just never really got round to buying some – these were only £12 I think, so it was finally time to actually get some. The stacker rings are a mixture of silver, gold and rose gold so will come in vair handy.

I have to stop writing now because I’m very hungover and need a vat of squash in my system RIGHT NOW. But let me know what you think of this haul!

Outfit of the Day: Birthday Marc B Bag!

Hey loves! As you may know from Lauren’s very kind Twitter proclamations, yesterday was my 23rd birthday.  I’ll have a full birthday post including all the lovely goodies I’ve received coming soon, but for now I thought I would quickly share my OOTD, including one new very special piece of arm candy… MY NEW MARC B BABY.

OOTD 4th October Collage Cardigan – Primark / Cami – Primark / Jeggings – Topshop / Frilly Socks – Primark / Ankle Boots – New Look / Necklace – Tiffanys / Bag – Marc B

I just had a very casual day for my birthday yesterday, which involved popping into town for some lunch and – of course – a bit of shopping, hence my very casual outfit. I don’t know about all of y’all, but making an effort to dress nice-ish for work each day (which we don’t have to, but ever since I accidentally ended up getting VIP tickets to Rihanna and had to go dressed like a tramp, I like to make more of an effort in case anything else is sprung on me) means that when I get a day off I just enjoy slouching around.

A huge thank you to everyone who wished me a happy birthday on Twitter! I’ve had a brilliant one so far, and the fun is continuing over into the weekend – HUZZAH. Maybe being 23 won’t be so boring after all.

September Favourites: Beauty, Fashion & Lifestyle

Hey there sexies! Today I’m here to present you with our first ever monthly favourites post. We tend not to get involved with these kind of regular series’, mainly because we go through life in a bit of a daze and barely know what month we’re even in most of the time. However, my birthday is fast approaching which means for once I’m a little more aware of the the date, so thought it was as good a time as any to give it a go. To be honest, I’ll probably still lose track of the very basic principle behind this post and start waffling on about things I actually bought back in July but just bear with me – I am very, very simple.

Beauty

September Favourites 1Despite being on a bit of a spending ban, there are some things a girl simply can’t go without – bread, milk and beauty products, for example. Here are four my favourite beauty discoveries from September:

  1. Osmo Silverising Shampoo & Conditioner – My main mission during September was the bleaching and whitening of my hair (which you can read more about here and here). I’ve found this silverising shampoo and conditioner to be absolutely amazing in keeping the yellowy tones out of my hair, and after using them my hair instantly has a bit of a lift.
  2. Seventeen Flawless Poreless Primer – I ‘ve raved about this primer A LOT in this full review, but over a week on and I’m still in love with it. It creates a lovely velvety base for makeup to go on, and actually sends my pores invisible like superhero pores.
  3. Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – All bloggers seem to love this concealer, so I suppose the only surprising thing is that I only bought it for the first time last month. It definitely lives up to the hype, and I reviewed it in full over on Jem’s blog.
  4. 3CE Lip Pigments – these were undoubtedly my favourite eBay bargains of the month. Costing only £1.80 each, these little OCC Lip Tar dupes have so far provided me with hours of mixing fun. I also reviewed these in full here

Fashion

Sep Faves Jumper

Unfortunately, my wardrobe was the place that felt my spending ban most cruelly. I didn’t really buy many new bits during the month, but my favourites were without a doubt my New Look cut-out ankle boots, worn with a variety of contrasting frilly ankle socks or with bare skin shining blindingly through.

My Topshop jeggings have also remained a staple part of my weekend wardrobe and are what I seem to throw on whenever I’m mooching around the house at the weekend and suddenly realise I actually have to face people (though this is usually just to go to the shop to buy biscuits). Knitwear has also began to sneak back into my life and my Primark fluffy cardigan has been an absolute fave of the month!

Lifestyle

Sep Faves KindleI’ve got back into the Kindle way of life, and two brilliant books I’ve read recently include Trafficked by Sophie Hayes and Room by Emma Donohue. Trafficked is the horrific true story of a British girl who was forced into sex slavery in Italy after travelling there with a man she thought she could trust; it’s gripping and intense but ultimately very inspiring. Room is the fictional account of a young boy who has been born in captivity to his kidnapped mother. The narrative is written from the perspective of the boy, which grated on me at first but eventually became completely absorbing. I’ve just started to read Goodnight Lady by Martina Cole. It’s the second Martina Cole book I’ve read and I don’t care how low brow it is, I love all that gritty East End gangster shizz. If brothels and people getting sliced up is your cup of tea, then I heartily recommend this for some easy reading.

And thus concludes my first Favourites post! What were you all loving last month?

Currently Watching: eBay Wishlist

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again: I bloody well love eBay! I always have at least twenty things in my ‘watching’ list, which I look at daily like a creepy Peeping Tom. A lot of stuff gets deleted once I go off it, but other bits lurk around there for weeks until I inevitably lose all willpower and make that transaction. Here are some of the things I’m currently lusting after:

ebay watching

1. Lipstick Storage Box – £2.99
2. Floral Jumper– £8.95
3. Tartan Scarf – £8.99
4. Platform PU Leather Chelsea Boots – £22
5. Lace Turban Headband – £2.00
6. 9 Piece Knuckle Stacker Rings – £1.85

An example of my piss poor willpower: in the few minutes it took me to write those prices down, I’ve just bought the jumper. The mind is willing but the flesh is weak.

What do you all think of these items? What are you watching on eBay at the moment?

New Look’s A/W 2013 Denim Campaign

New Look Denim 2

If in a few years time you’re asked to recall what major events happened in 2013, what will you say? That our future king was born? That the Pope quit? That Miley Cyrus became a full time hoochie? NO, you won’t say any of these things unless your priorities are completely out of whack. You will instead say that 2013 was the year of the denim revolution.

This summer, we saw denim enter our lives in ways which we might not have expected. I for one had a lifelong hope that denim skirts would NEVER make a comeback after the god-awful denim mini skirts of the early 00s (I think my sister actually had one with some sort of jewels on, though I’m hoping that was just a nightmare I had). But lo and behold, there I was in 2013 handing my money over to the fine people of Topshop in exchange for a denim skater skirt which I absolutely loved. Then when the 90s trend came along, dungarees came with it. Once again, I was left gobsmacked by the fact that people actually looked decent in them and not just like they were performing in a Dexy’s Midnight Runners tribute act, about to burst into a rousing chorus of ‘Come On Eileen’. Certainly, it was an exciting season for denim.

As we head into Autumn/Winter, our legs become chilly and thoughts inevitably start to turn to jeans. There was definitely a worry that the humble jeans could end up losing popularity now that we’ve experienced what life is like with their funkier denim cousins (if you didn’t have this worry then, again, you need to think about your priorities). Thankfully though, new Autumn/Winter denim ranges are starting to be released and BY JOVE, THEY’RE FUN.

New Look are one store who have just launched their new denim campaign. While they still have a range of denim shorts, jackets, dungarees and skirts to swoon over, it’s the jeans that have attracted my attention. In terms of fit and shape, there isn’t really anything revolutionary to report. The skinny jean is still king of all it surveys, with three variations hitting stores: the skinny, the highrise skinny and the super skinny. For those who like the skinny look but also want to feel like they can chow down on as many biscuits as they like (i.e. ME), jeggings are also featured strongly in the new campaign. And for those who just can’t get on with skinny denim, there’s the classic bootcut.

New Look Denim 1

What’s really interesting about the new range, though, is what’s being done with texture and pattern. Coloured jeans seem to have taken a bit of a back seat this season. While there are still burgundy and electric blue hues around, pastels are firmly out (so sorry, lavender jeans, away you go). Instead it’s all about the finish of the jeans. Acid wash remains huge, but the new big cheese on the block (let’s all pretend that’s a real phrase please) is coated jeans. If you’re not quite brave enough for full leather trousers or disco pants, then coated jeans are the much more wearable take on the trend, and can be dressed up or down for effortless style.

Acid Wash Jeans

Coated Jeans

As always, I’m SUPER impressed with New Look’s latest denim offerings. With leg lengths ranging from 28″-34″, they cater to all different shapes and sizes – even us teeny tiny hobbit girls. For a full look at their Autumm/Winter denim campaign, have a look at NL Daily.

What do you all think of the latest season’s denim trends?
