YSL Touche Eclat Dupes: Kiko vs Seventeen

Kiko Soft Focus and Seventeen Wow ConcealerOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAYSL’s Touche Éclat is one of the most iconic and raved about makeup items out there,  but £25 for a concealer is a little bit naaaaaah for me. But with the shiny casing and clicky distribution method, it’s obvious that both of these concealers are marketing themselves as dupes for the eye-brightening miracle worker that apparently is Touche Éclat. While I don’t have the original to compare, I decided to give them both a whirl to see what magic they could work.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAFirst up, I bought the Kiko Soft Focus Concealer. This is described as an ‘illuminating concealer’ with a ‘lifting effect’. It applies really nicely, with the brush applicator making smoothing this underneath the eyes really easy. At first I really liked how this looked, and it covered any dark circles and uneven skin tone really well. However, I didn’t find that it brightened my under-eye area that much, and as the day wore on I did notice that it went a bit cakey and noticeable.

As I wasn’t in love with it, when I saw the new Seventeen Wow! Skin Concealer on sale in Boots I decided that it was worth giving that a go too. I’ve used a couple of the Wow! Skin products from Seventeen and really liked them, so felt like I was in safe hands. I have to say that I was much more impressed with the Seventeen offering than the Kiko. While the application was practically identical, the final effect was better. Firstly,  the shade was much better:

Bottom: Kiko Soft Focus Concealer

I’d bought the Kiko Soft Focus Concealer in the lightest shade, 01. But as you can see, the Wow Skin Highlighter in the shade Fair is much lighter. I think the pinker undertone also helps with the illumination better than the yellow tone of the Kiko product. Overall I just don’t think the Kiko concealer adds anywhere near enough brightness to the eye, and I think paler girls would actually find this to be too dark for their skin in general. Also, the Seventeen concealer wears much better underneath the eyes than Kiko. I don’t find that it settles into any lines at all, and it looks almost as good at the end of the day as the beginning.

I certainly don’t hate the Kiko concealer, and I’ve actually now started using it as my concealer for blemishes as the coverage is still really good. However, if you’re looking for something that’s really going to brighten your face up then I 100% recommend Seventeen’s Wow Skin.

Have you tried either of these products, or do you swear by the classic YSL Touch Eclat? Let me know in the comments!

Wow you’ve definitely tempted me with Seventeen’s Skin Wow. I’ve not tried Touche Eclat either but a good dupe always gets my vote!

I definitely want to try the Seventeen one now:) I have always wanted to sample the YSL one but as you say, £25 is pretty steep!

The Seventeen skin highlighter looks pretty great actually, I wouldn’t mind giving that a try for myself. I use their Stay Time Concealer which I am a huge fan of.

Ahh yeah I’ve used some of the Stay Time products too and really liked them! So I think you’d get on with this one too xx

I haven’t used either, but I have to say that for my pale skin the Seventeen one looks much better! I have a concealer that’s a similar colour to the KIKO one and it just makes the concealer SO noticeable because it’s way too yellow for my skin . I’ve saved this so that next time I head in to Boots I can have a peek at the Seventeen concealer!

I think it would definitely be good for paler skin tones, and its not yellowy at all 🙂 xx

I honestly wish Seventeen is easily available here in Canada but I think the only way for me to get my hands on it is through online. Have read really great reviews on the brand, just wish it’s easily accessible here. 🙁

I haven’t tried these concealers, but I really love the clicky pen type of concealer because they tend to be so brightening on the face 🙂

I’ve used YSL before and loved it but it’s pretty pricey. Your review of the seventeen one sounds like a great dupe so may have to try that. 🙂

I really need to find an alternative to Touche Eclat but I haven’t found anything cheaper that has as good a shade range 🙁 the L’Oreal Lumi Magique is a really good formula I find, just too light and I checked out the Seventeen when it came out but the shades were an instant ‘nope’!

Ahh I hadn’t considered the shade range, that must be so frustrating! xx
