If there’s one highstreet brand that I feel has really upped its game and changed its reputation in recent years, then it’s River Island. Long gone are the days of the unnecessary zips and rhinestones (oh early 2000s, how I hope you never make a comeback); now to me River Island is all about sleek, grown up styles that keep an element of fun and individuality. I’ve loved each new collection of theirs for the last few years, so was so excited to pay a visit to their brand new Style Studio in Birmingham to see what’s on offer for the new season. I’ll have a post coming soon all about the Studio in the recently re-vamped Bullring store (spoiler alert: it’s AMAZING), but for now here’s a quick OOTD showing off two of the pieces I picked up while there.
One of the key trends for River Island this A/W that we were talked through in the Style Studio is minimalist chic, which incorporates a cool colour palette and sleek silhouettes. As a big fan of neutral tones and quite simplistic pieces, this trend is completely up my street and I feel that this top and skirt combo fit the bill nicely. The grey and brown make a refreshing change from my usual black, and I love the mixing of the textures with the ribbed top and the faux leather, snakeskin-esque skirt. I also love the exaggerated roll neck of the top (perfect for rolling up and taking a little snooze in if work gets too dull), and I’ll definitely be snapping this up in the other colours available.
What do you all think of this outfit? Are you a fan of River Island?
