NYX Lipliner ‘Mauve’: A MAC Whirl Dupe?

NYX Mauve Lipliner Review

NYX Lipliner in Mauve So, Caitlyn Jenner might totally have stolen the Jenner limelight for a bit (and rightfully so – you go gurrrrl), but I for one am still a little obsessed with good ol’ Kylie Jenner. YES, we all know the lips are fake now, but does that make them any less enchanting? Does it make us want Velvet Teddy any less? If your answer is yes, then well done you – you’re a stronger person than me. I still wanted Velvet Teddy and was SO pleased to finally get my hands on it a couple of weeks ago.

Of course, I knew that for maximum Jenner impact, I needed a lipliner. MAC’s lipliner in ‘Whirl’ is widely credited as being the perfect match for Velvet Teddy, but after just forking out £15.50 on the lipstick I really couldn’t be bothered paying another £12 for the liner. So like any thrifty blogger, I went on the hunt online for a dupe. And of course my fellow beauty bloggers didn’t disappoint!

NYX lipliner in ‘Mauve’ is a fraction of the price of MAC’s ‘Whirl’ at only £5. I’m not sure where people usually pick up NYX products, but I found the lipliner being sold by this eBay seller. It arrived in just day or two and I was bloody delighted to see that it’s almost exactly the same shade as Velvet Teddy. As I don’t own Whirl, I obviously can’t really compare the two; but as NYX ‘Mauve’ is such a close match to Velvet Teddy, I can’t imagine Whirl possibly being any better.

NYX Mauve Swatch

In terms of application, Mauve is smooth to apply and not draggy or dry as some lipliners can be. When paired with Velvet Teddy, it creates a rich and bold nude-brown look that doesn’t budge for hours. I’ve worn the lipstick with and without the liner, and can confirm that it definitely lasts longer and looks more ‘finished’ with Mauve worn underneath.

Overall, I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a MAC Whirl dupe, especially if it’s to be worn with Velvet Teddy. Definitely cheaper than buying Whirl, and definitely cheaper than getting Kylie Jenner’s lip fillers (though I still totally still want those too).

Have any of you tried NYX products? What do you think?

I love a good dupe. It’s great to find quality products for a fraction of the price. I kind of like the NYX one better. :]
